ISN AT TOUR DES ALPES-MARITIMES ET DU VAR

Israel Start-Up Nation got off to a flying start to the 2021 race season at Tour des Alpes-Maritimes et du Var. The team started the three-day tour with big ambitions, bringing a versatile squad, highly motivated to bring home their first victory of the year.

The rolling terrain throughout the southeast region of France couldn’t have been better suited to new team recruit, Mike Woods who started the race as top favourite for the win. Woods thrived off the pressure and made his winning move up the final 1,200m Fayence climb to the finish on Stage 2, gaining enough of a gap to comfortably salute and enjoy the moment. The win came after a seamless delivery by his teammates, including a timely lead-out into the base of the climb by powerhouse and highly experienced rider, also new to the team – Sep Vanmarcke.

Woods began the final Stage 3 leading the race by the narrowest of margins, yet beaming confidence in himself and his team after the prior day’s efforts. Following a drama-filled stage, he fell gut-wrenchingly short come the finish, unable to reel in the day’s early breakaway and ending the day in second place by a mere 5 seconds.

A bittersweet end to a very successful debut, confirming the team is on the right track to what will undeniably be a promising season to come.
