Factor Hatsune Miku Edition

Celebrating JCL Team UKYO Japanese Champions

In 2023, JCL Team UKYO won both the Japanese national championship in the road race and time trial with two different riders. This is the first time in the team’s twelve-year history that it has both the Japanese national road race champion and time trial champion on the team.

When one team can claim to have multiple national championship victories with multiple riders, that should be congratulated and celebrated. We are marking the victories by designing a special edition OSTRO VAM and HANZŌ using the image of renowned Japanese virtual singer Hatsune Miku (Japanese: 初音ミク). As an innovative and evocative entertainer, Miku represents for many the sound of the future.

JCL Team UKYO has a tradition of featuring Miku on a special edition cycling kit every year, and so we've decided to celebrate the team's national success by echoing this design on the OSTRO VAM and HANZŌ.

Japanese national road race champion, Masaki Yamamoto, will be aboard the Factor OSTRO VAM Miku Edition in 2024, and indeed has already taken a victory in the Tour de Okinawa wearing his national champions jersey and racing his unique Miku OSTRO. To highlight Yuma Koishi’s success as current Japanese time trial champion, we have also fashioned a special HANZŌ with the Miku imagery.

This is not Miku’s first foray into the world of sports; she has also been featured on Super GT motorsport vehicles. In fact, Miku’s involvement with motorsports inspired the design used on the OSTRO VAM and HANZŌ. The base colors reference the metallic and carbon fiber surfaces of the team's past GT3000 race cars, while the metallic silver and deep gloss black suggest speed and performance. The turquoise used is a direct quote for Hastune Miku's flowing hair. Combined together, the design and colors add a sense of movement. To set the whole frame off, the detailed imagery at the seat tube and forks makes for truly original racing bikes.
