Factor unveils models with new SRAM Red AXS eTap

What’s new with SRAM Red AXS eTap

Having introduced the first ever wireless electric groupset in 2015, SRAM established themselves as elite innovators in the bike component realm. Now the already cutting-edge Red AXS eTap is getting its first upgrade since it was released in 2019, and the improvements can be seen on many fronts, including performance, weight, and ergonomics.

Focusing on advancing their wireless technology, the latest Red AXS eTap retains the same reliability and smooth shifting that has marked out the brand’s drivetrains since introducing their eTap system. The ergonomics have been enhanced by refining the shape of the hoods and the shift/brake levers. The hoods themselves have a pleasing shape that eschews the formerly bulbous effect, rather favoring a more streamlined curvature that has been designed to fit the widest range of hand shapes and offer greater leverage when braking when on the hoods.

Similarly, the shift paddles behind the brake levers have been lengthened and given more tactile grooving to facilitate shifting even in moments of intense exertion. The design's effectiveness was evident with Jonathan Milan’s powerful sprint win in stage 4 of the Giro d’Italia using this newest SRAM Red AXS eTap groupset.

Sticking with a 12-speed configuration, the Red AXS eTap offers effective gear ratios that can accommodate riders at the elite WorldTour level as well as enthusiastic cyclists of all capabilities. The gearing has been chosen specifically to allow for the optimum chain alignment to ensure smooth, efficient rotation and shifting with no loss of watts or chain-skipping. The front derailleur has been refined by narrowing the front cage to ensure a better control of the chain and a more precise front shift, while the chain has been optimized to be both reactive and super lightweight.

The integrated power meter integrates neatly into the crank to ensure that you can always have access to the most important performance numbers without a lot of weight or bulk added. Weight savings were high on the list of the SRAM engineers when revamping this groupset, which can be clearly seen in the hollowed-out sections of the rear derailleur, the disc brake rotors, calipers, the jockey wheels, and the chain.
