Factor MONZA VEXX Edition

Innovation is the flipside of creativity. Pushing new boundaries, trying new methodologies, searching for solutions. It’s a process both the artist and engineer understand. And when applied to a bike frame, developed by Factor and graphically designed by VEXX, the MONZA VEXX Edition is the result. Creativity x performance.

The doodles behind the design

VEXX is a young Belgian artist who melds high art and pop culture to create his powerfully colourful designs. His imagery takes a lot from nature and his view of the natural world. Growing up in Belgium, VEXX was exposed to cycling from a very young age, with some of his best memories watching the races with his grandfather. The design he has employed for this special edition MONZA reflects the myriad of influences that have come to define his creations: images from pop culture, his own character creations, and allusions to the nature he sees around him. Since this special edition MONZA will be raced at Paris-Roubaix, the most brutal race day on the calendar, its graphic will pop in the sun, if it shines, and contrast with the spatters of mud, if it rains.

Utility driven; performance oriented

MONZA carries this racing pedigree forward in a refined, streamlined design. It delivers true race performance in a package optimised to withstand the roughest conditions. The MONZA’s general durability when contrasted with the ultra-light, optimised layups of the ONE and the OSTRO VAM give it an innate “toughness.” While the stiffness profiles on the bikes are largely similar, the frame masses and volumes are different. The MONZA uses a greater quantity of lower modulus, less stiff and more ductile fibres. Still lightweight, this carbon mixture offers the additional advantage found with these higher ductility fibres is a perception of increased comfort as the frame serves to dampen many of the higher frequency, bone-jarring and fatigue-inducing vibrations. The geometry has been adapted to the bike’s use scenarios, offering a slightly higher stack height to help open up hip angles and further ease fatigue by allowing the rider to maintain a comfortable yet still aggressive position for hours on end.

Wide tyre clearance

With up to 34 mm tyre clearance, the MONZA is well suited to handle the kinderkopf cobbles of northern France. The bike has been paired with the Black Inc FIFTY EIGHT Wheelset for Roubaix race day to enhance the overall durability and comfort of the set-up. The FIFTY EIGHT offer greater vertical compliance with steel spokes that can absorb the constant impacts. The modern (23 mm) inner rim width (IRW) provides sufficient support to race aggressively on wider volume tyres at very low pressures.
